Why is hydrogen dissociation activated on copper but not on palladium?

(Pier Philipsen)

Inspiration: Prof. Ziegler's talk: Beating the Heavy Metal Blues with LSD

When I was a young boy
I was kind of a philosopher
I kept on asking questions
But this one grabbed me the most
Why is hydrogen dissociation
Activated on copper
But not on palladium
I asked my mother why is that so
She didn't know

So I went to high school
Got physics and chemistry
I felt confident
That finally they would tell me
Why is hydrogen dissociation
Activated on copper
But not on palladium
I asked my teacher why is that so (guess what)
He didn't know (also)

Later at the university
I studied physics and chemistry
The Schroedinger equation
Would surely tell me
Why is hydrogen dissociation
Activated on copper
But not on palladium
I asked my professor why is that so (guess what)
He didn't know (also, bad show, I wanna know)

As a kind of a last resort
I went to them orbitals
Orbital, Orbital help me please
Life ain't worth living anymore

It is actually kind of easy
When you use us orbitals
First there is Pauli repulsion
That may or may not be Reliefed
And then finally you got the orbital relaxations
That completes the story
And that is that
